You can see Clavius walking on the road far into the distance, searching desperately for the risen messiah.

At 1:08:00 in “Risen”, Clavius reveals his own future.  Does he not strike you as an honorable man?  A man who would keep his promise? He said if the god of the Hebrews would help him with his aims and do so in clear and obvious signs, he swore to build temples to that god.  I imagine, then, that this promise is precisely what Clavius is off to fulfill as the movie ends.
