This short film takes a behind-the-scenes look into a painter’s process and vision in creating an original work of sacred art — the descent of the Holy Spirit as a dramatic collage of images drawn from across the tradition of art.
Through a synthesis of stylistic influences ranging from baroque to contemporary, the piece presents the awe-inspiring descent of the Holy Spirit in all its bewildering suddenness and mystery.
This is an artist’s journey. I found it extremely moving, I guess because I am first and foremost an artist. I think like an artist. I perceive like an artist. I have sensibilities and aims like an artist. I have artistic passions across many mediums and it has been my drive in life to experience something soul-resonant from as many artistic disciplines as possible. The artist is a warrior of sorts, in my opinion, because it takes enormous courage to approach creation without any guarantees, never really knowing how things will turn out, or IF they will turn out. Sometimes they do, and sometimes they don’t. But the real artist doesn’t recoil or attempt to control the process; rather, the artist rides the uncertainty like a wave. To live improvisationally in this way is very daunting for some, but for the artist it is a way of life. The artist and creator of this film depicts that yoke quite accurately.
